Alaska is an extreme frontier state: 1.2 persons per square mile, we have a population of roughly 750,000, and we're spread out over an area larger than California, Montana, and Texas combined. We consistently have some of the highest rates for Tb, suicide, chlamydia, and many other health markers. Alaskan Public Health Nurses live locally within communities while developing the role of Chief Health Strategist and creating cross sector partnerships with the aim of solving complex social issues.
